DAV Chapter 15 is excited to introduce Veteran’s Voices of Habersham County, a new weekly radio show airing every Saturday and Sunday on WCHM 94.3 FM. Hosted by Jim Morgan, Commander of DAV Chapter 15, American Legion Post 84, and Sr. Vice Commander of VFW Post 7720. The program highlights the challenges, resources, and triumphs of veterans in Northeast Georgia, while fostering a sense of community and collaboration among local Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs).
Each 21-minute episode is packed with valuable content for veterans and their families. The show explores key topics such as VA claims assistance, veteran mental health, and community programs. It also highlights the important work of local organizations, including VFW Post 7720 and American Legion Post 84, which partner with the DAV to ensure veterans receive the care and recognition they deserve.
Special segments feature the Grant-Reeves Veterans Honor Guard, which provides military honors for fallen veterans, and interviews with local veterans, experts, service officers, and advocates. The goal of Veteran’s Voices is to create a space where veterans can learn about vital resources and feel the support of a strong, united community.

A New Initiative
On the Veteran's Voices show, airing Saturday, December 28th, a new initiative called the Commander's Outreach Protocol, also known as the Veterans Crisis Team Program, was introduced to the public. This program was developed in response to a shooting incident involving a veteran in Clarkesville, and a near-tragic event in Demorest. DAV Commander Jim Morgan recognized the urgent need for a proactive approach to prevent such crises and provide timely support to veterans in distress.
The program details were shared with local police and sheriff departments to encourage collaboration and community-wide implementation. While responses have been limited, with only two departments initially expressing interest, the initiative remains an important step toward fostering better communication and resources for veterans in need. Efforts to expand participation and raise awareness are ongoing to ensure that every veteran receives the support they deserve.
Please urge your local law enforcement agencies to review and adopt the Commander's Outreach Protocol to enhance their ability to respond to veterans in crisis. By working together, we can build a safer and more supportive community for those who have served, and those continuing to serve.
